The Shadowmoor block, consisting of Shadowmoor (released May 2, 2008) and Eventide (July 25, 2008), takes place in a twisted, gloom-shrouded version of the Lorwyn plane. The block shifts from Lorwyn's tribal focus to a heavy emphasis on hybrid mana and enemy color pairings. It introduces mechanics like Wither, Persist, Retrace, and Chroma, alongside continued use of hybrid cards. Shadowmoor features allied-color hybrid themes, while Eventide focuses on enemy-colored hybrids, making both sets unique in deck-building and visual identity. Notable cards include Glen Elendra Archmage, Runed Halo, Figure of Destiny, and Twilight Mire. With its dark aesthetic, inventive mechanics, and hybrid-mana innovation, the Shadowmoor block offered one of the most mechanically distinct and atmospheric experiences in Magic history.
