Masques Block

The Masques block, made up of Mercadian Masques (released October 4, 1999), Nemesis (February 14, 2000), and Prophecy (June 5, 2000), follows the powerful Urza’s Saga block with a more restrained, low-power design. The block emphasizes creative resource management and introduces mechanics like Rebels, Mercenaries, Fading, and Rhystic effects. Mercadian Masques brings in Spellshapers and tribal themes, Nemesis debuts the Fading mechanic and expands on Rebels and Mercenaries, and Prophecy focuses on lands and spells that scale with untapped mana. Notable cards across the block include Rishadan Port, Tangle Wire, Linvalla, Keeper of Silence (reprinted), Food Chain, and Rhystic Study. Though often viewed as a lower-powered era, the Masques block introduced unique designs that have stood the test of time.
