Beta

Beta Edition, officially released on October 4, 1993, was Magic: The Gathering’s second-ever printing, following Alpha. It included 302 cards—slightly more than Alpha due to the correction of printing errors and the inclusion of five cards omitted from the first print run (Circle of Protection: Black, Volcanic Island, Island Sanctuary, Cyclopean Tomb, and Fear). Beta cards are black-bordered and feature many of Magic’s most iconic and powerful cards, including the full Power Nine, Shivan Dragon, and Lord of the Pit. With improved print runs and expanded availability compared to Alpha, Beta remains a prized set among collectors and old-school players.
