Kamigawa Block

The Kamigawa block, consisting of Champions of Kamigawa (released October 1, 2004), Betrayers of Kamigawa (February 4, 2005), and Saviors of Kamigawa (June 3, 2005), is set on a plane inspired by Japanese mythology and folklore. The block emphasizes spirits, legendary creatures, and arcane spells, introducing mechanics like Soulshift, Bushido, Ninjutsu, Splice onto Arcane, and Channel. Champions of Kamigawa establishes the spirit-world conflict and legendary theme, Betrayers of Kamigawa expands tribal and introduces Ninjutsu, and Saviors of Kamigawa adds Wisdom-matters mechanics that reward high hand counts. Notable cards from the block include Sensei's Divining Top, Umezawa’s Jitte, Kokusho, the Evening Star, Pithing Needle, and Keiga, the Tide Star. While mechanically complex and slower-paced, the Kamigawa block has gained appreciation over time for its unique flavor and standout cards.
