Innistrad Block

The Innistrad block, consisting of Innistrad (released September 30, 2011), Dark Ascension (February 3, 2012), and Avacyn Restored (May 4, 2012), immerses players in a gothic horror setting filled with vampires, zombies, werewolves, and spirits. The block introduced Double-Faced Cards as a major innovation, along with mechanics like Morbid, Flashback, Undying, Fateful Hour, and Miracle. Innistrad set the tone with a strong graveyard theme and tribal synergies, while Dark Ascension deepened the darkness as evil forces took control. Avacyn Restored then flipped the narrative with the return of the archangel Avacyn, emphasizing hope and redemption. Notable cards from the block include Snapcaster Mage, Liliana of the Veil, Griselbrand, Terminus, and Cavern of Souls. With its atmospheric storytelling and format-defining cards, the Innistrad block remains one of Magic’s most beloved and influential.
